SNP warn hundreds of Dundee children would pay price of housing benefit cuts

Westminster proposals to cut housing benefit for people under 25 will affect more than 1,500 young people and around 700 children in Dundee, the SNP claim.

Barring under-25s from claiming housing benefit is part of UK Government plans to cut £25 billion from public spending.

But Dundee’s SNP politicians have attacked the plans, saying many of the under-25s claiming housing benefit are parents whose children would naturally suffer.

They say there are 633 children in a single-parent household in Dundee receiving housing benefit and a further 75 child dependents in two-parent households. Will you be affected by the proposals? Ms Robison said: “Westminster’s skewed priorities will directly hit young people and children and increase the risk of homelessness.

“With a Yes vote an SNP Government in an independent Scotland will end these unfair policies, scrap the bedroom tax and create a fairer welfare system that protects the most vulnerable people in Scotland.”
