A Dundee councillor has condemned the proposed closure of the Dundee Passport Office in the city’s Greenmarket.
Councillor Fraser Macpherson insists that promises delivered to Dundee in 2011 regarding the continuation of local passport services have been broken by HM Passport Office.
Mr Macpherson said: “When Dundee’s former passport office in Nethergate was closed in autumn 2011, the then Identity and Passport Service assured that local passport interview facilities would still be available in Dundee.
“It now means that people in Dundee, Tayside, Fife and Aberdeenshire will have to travel to Glasgow or Edinburgh for passport interview services and it breaks long-standing links to the communities staff serve.”
A Home Office spokesman said the passport office is “focused on delivering an excellent service while providing value for the taxpayer”.
Under current plans the office will close on March 18.
