A Dundee car enthusiast left his friend in hospital for weeks after he flipped his car into a tree.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard Ryan Willis, 23, lost control of his modified black Honda Civic after overtaking on a blind bend on Boxing Day.
The car then flipped 180 degrees and hit a tree, injuring both Willis and his friend Stewart Myles, 20, who was a front seat passenger.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson said Mr Myles was taken to hospital and received treatment to a broken jaw, dislocated foot, fractured foot, 11 and four stitches to two separate cuts and screws and wires in both feet.
He then spent six weeks in hospital and, when he was released, he was wheelchair-bound for weeks before having to wear a support boot.
Four months after the crash, Mr Myles had the screws removed from his feet and was given physiotherapy to aid his walking.
The fiscal told the court the accident happened shortly after midnight on December 26 2013 as Willis and his friend followed another friend’s car home to Dundee from Arbroath, via Brechin.
Ms Robertson said: “The road was wet but it was not raining. The speed limit was 60mph. After passing a junction at Redford road the accused entered the opposing carriageway to overtake his friend’s car.
“She said she was travelling at around 50mph and he was travelling around 60mph coming into the blind bend.
“He carried out the manoeuvre and pulled back into the carriageway before the bend and as he did so he lost control and she describes the car as fish-tailing.
“It then left the carriageway, overturning 180 degrees and striking a tree. The accused left the vehicle and tried to help Mr Myles out of the passenger seat.”
The friend also assisted and police and paramedics arrived shortly after.
Solicitor Nicola Brown, for Willis, said: “He thought it was safe to overtake. It was not a race.”
Willis, of Ashkirk Place, admitted a charge of dangerous driving.
Sheriff Elizabeth Munro said: “You are lucky to have survived this accident. So is Mr Myles.”
Sentence was deferred until August 4 and Willis was disqualified from driving meantime.
