Dundee bid for City Deal funding still on track despite Fife role in rival project
ByStefan Morkis
Dundee’s hope of acquiring City Deal status will not be jeopardised by Fife’s role in a rival bid, it has been claimed.
The city council has been working with Angus, Perth and Kinross and Fife councils on a bid that would, if successful, deliver a £400 million boost to the local economy.
Launched by Westminster in 2011, the city deal programme aims to give local authorities “greater resources and financial freedoms” to drive economic growth.
However, Fife is also part of an ambitious Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region (ESESCR) bid being made six councils working together – Edinburgh City, Fife, East Lothian, Midlothian, West Lothian and Scottish Borders.
A Fife Council spokeswoman said they remained “supportive” of the Tay cities bid while Dundee City Council said officers are still working to finalise details of their submission.
