A feline mother-of-four has struck it lucky after finding a new home with a new family thanks to a Courier appeal.
Amy, the one-year-old mum, has moved up in the world after she traded her old squat in the abandoned Albert Street bookies for new digs in Broughty Ferry.
She had been raising her four kittens alone before she was rescued by the Cats’ Protection League just before Christmas.
People helped to feed her through the window of the closed shop for three weeks before her rescuers managed to track down the building’s owner and get a key.
All four of Amy’s feral kittens were rehabilitated and rehomed before her but Amy’s maternal instincts will still be put to good use with her new family, which also has four young children.
Irene Brown, of the Cats Protection League Dundee, said: “The family went up to see her at her foster home and she did really well.
“She moved into her new home on Tuesday and now lives in the Broughty Ferry area with a young family with four children.
“When she was in the centre for so long she spent most of her time in bed. She had nothing to get out of bed for. She just ate and slept.
“It is still early days but she seems to be settling in well at her new home.
“As all cats do, she has been quite happily going all over the place being curious and checking out the new smells.”
Irene said the article about Amy’s ordeal had definitely helped her find her new family and she was also pleased to report a lot more people have been contacting the centre about rehoming cats as well.
She said: “Amy was with us almost six months from start to finish, which was among the longest any of our cats have been waiting.
“We are so pleased she has finally got her forever home. Sometimes they just need a bit of help to sell themselves.”
