Two postcode areas in Dundee have among the highest prison populations in the country.
Figures released under Freedom of Information legislation reveal that the DD3 and DD4 postcode areas are each home to 104 offenders now behind bars beaten only by the G33 area of Glasgow.
Many of the areas are recognised by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation as being among the poorest in the country.
But other areas, such as north-west Perth and surrounding villages, also have high prison populations, despite their relative affluence.
The Scottish Government insisted it was doing everything it could to help deprived areas.
A spokeswoman said: “Regeneration of our deprived and disadvantaged communities remains a key priority for Government.”
