A Dundee councillor has been charged by police following an alleged assault at the city’s SNP parliamentary office last year.
Environment convener Craig Melville is understood to have been charged by officers in the last few days following an incident at the premises on Old Glamis Road last December.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed officers had charged a man in connection with a report of an alleged attack.
She said: “A 35-year-old man has been charged in relation to an assault on December 15 2014.”
The matter is believed to be in the early stages of investigation and a report is yet to be received by the procurator fiscal.
Mr Melville said there had been an incident involving a work colleague that had been dealt with internally.
Dundee City Council leader Ken Guild said he was unaware of the charge against his SNP colleague.
Mr Melville became a well-known figure in Dundee politics when he stood as a candidate in the Maryfield by election on March 12 2009.
He took the position from Labour’s Joe Morrow, who had vacated the seat.
Before then, Mr Melville had been a case worker for Dundee East MP Stewart Hosie.
