Dundee teen admits spitting on former girlfriend during Christmas argument

A Dundee teenager admitted spitting on his then girlfriend during a Christmas Day argument.

Gary McKay, 19, of Bonnethill Court, Dundee, admitted that on December 25 at Arklay Terrace, he assaulted a woman he was in a relationship with at the time, spat on her head and repeatedly bit her on the head, to her injury.

He also admitted on the same occasion assaulting a female friend and striking her on the head to her injury.

The depute fiscal told the court: “The complainer was the accused’s then partner. They had gone to her address along with a friend.

“At about 8.30pm an argument started between (the partner) and the accused about something petty. In response, the accused grabbed (her) hair and pushed her head down.

“She attempted to get away but could not do so. He spat on her face and repeatedly bit her on the face.

“He eventually stopped and the pair started shouting at each other.”

At that point the other woman intervened and was struck on the head. The accused left the premises and the police were contacted.

The partner sustained some bite marks and scratches on her head and the other woman sustained a lump on her face, a bleeding nose, cut mouth, sore head and a lump behind her right ear.

McKay’s solicitor Theo Findlay said: “He had too much to drink and has very little recollection of this act.

“He is appalled by his actions.”

McKay has since apologised for his actions.

Sheriff Kenneth McGowan deferred sentence to February 11 for reports and admitted McKay to bail.
