Vandals have caused hundreds of pounds of damage at a Dundee amateur football club and the newly refurbished Roseangle Playpark.

Dundee West AFC said its community pavilion in Charlotte Street had been repeatedly targeted in recent weeks.

Elsewhere in the city, a number of young trees have been snapped at the play park on Magdalen Green, which reopened in April following a £150,000 revamp.

Users, who have flocked to use its facilities since the Friends of Magdalen Green completed their labour of love, have described the damage as “vile”, “sick” and “mindless”.

The city’s environment convener Councillor Craig Melville said: “We were made aware of the situation and officers acted quickly to remove the trees and made the area safe.

“Replacement trees will be planted towards the end of the year. Vandalism will not be tolerated and I would always urge people to report any acts like this to the police.”

Meanwhile, officials at Dundee West AFC have urged members of the community to come forward with information about those responsible for the vandalism that has blighted their hub.

A spokesman for the club’s committee said: “Our community hub pavilion at Charlotte Street together with our containers has been subjected to numerous acts of damage and vandalism recently.

“At the weekend we had one door kicked in, numerous locks and handles damage as a result of people trying to gain entry and one container lock so badly damaged that we are locked-out.

“Woodwork has also been ripped off and that is on top of the damage done to fences a few weekends ago.

“The fence and wooden trims around the containers cost us a few thousand pounds to install at the end of last year and repairs are now going to run into a few hundred pounds.

“If anyone has any info as to who is responsible for this it would be good to know as we would like to share this cost with them and their families.”

Police Scotland said it was aware of damage to “numerous doors” at the pavilion as a result of at least one incident of vandalism.

“We would appeal to anyone who has information about the identity of vandals to contact Police Scotland on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111,” a spokeswoman said.
