Riot police descended on a quiet Dundee street after a woman barricaded herself in her home.
Police were called to Wentworth Gardens in Ardler around 11am following reports the woman had threatened to injure herself.
Shocked residents of neighbouring properties watched as armoured police descended on the normally quiet residential street.
Police vans blocked both ends of Wentworth Gardens and officers wearing riot gear and carrying large, plastic shields formed blockades at the front and back doors of the two-storey building.
Rumours about the nature of the incident swept through the housing estate.
Negotiators spent more than two hours trying to convince the woman to give herself up before using a battering ram to knock down the front door.
She was later arrested for an alleged breach of the peace and taken away in a police van.
Inspector Peter McLennan said: “We were notified that there were concerns for the safety of a lady.
“Inquiries were made and she was traced to an address in the Ardler area.
“When officers arrived there were concerns for her mental state and that she may harm herself.
“We negotiated with her for an extended period but it was clear she wasn’t willing to do that.
“Entry into the house was forced and she has been arrested.
“There was no harm to the public, there was no risk to anyone at all.”
Local resident Jen Pryde, 59, said: “I’m not sure what happened, I came home about 11.30am and the police came shortly after that.
“I’ve never seen anything like it here before, it’s really quiet usually.
“I saw about 10 officers, so it was a big response. It’s quite a scary thing to see on your doorstep.”
