Falling masonry causes traffic chaos in Dundee city centre

Falling debris caused traffic chaos on Dundee’s ring road on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency services attended after a member of the public reported falling masonry coming from the roof of Customs House on Dock Street.
The street was closed and traffic was diverted along West Victoria Dock Road for at least half an hour.
A Dundee City Council engineer attended and called for the fire service to gain access to the roof.
A motorist heading in the other direction at around 1pm described the scenes as gridlock and said: “Two lanes of traffic were blocked heading towards the bridge, right round the Olympia roundabout right back to the underpass and surrounding roads.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Some debris fell off the roof of Customs House and the fire service used a platform to check the roof.
“It caused some traffic congestion as traffic was diverted.”
A spokeswoman for the fire service said crews had used an aerial platform to reach the roof and remove loose masonry.
The incident was resolved and left with the city engineer by 2pm.
