A pregnant woman fears she may lose her baby because of her housing situation.
Toni Smith, 22, says she has been urinated on and burgled by neighbours in her block, who also smoke marijuana in the stairwell outside her door.
She also has to climb eight flights of stairs every day in her Menzieshill close, despite being 26 weeks pregnant and suffering from severe asthma and pelvic problems, according to mother, Donna Hunt.
Mrs Hunt says that despite repeated requests, Dundee City Council is doing little to find her daughter more suitable accommodation.
She says that as a result, Toni is terrified that she may lose her baby.
Dundee City Council have strongly denied the claims, saying they are doing everything they can to resolve the situation.
Mrs Hunt told The Courier: “I have been constantly emailing the director of housing but I just keep getting the same answers back that someone is looking into the housing situation.
“This has been going on for weeks and there is no way being 26 weeks pregnant she should have to climb eight flights of stairs every day.
“She also has a serious pelvic bone problem due to the pregnancy and can hardly walk. She has to wear a pregnancy support belt to help keep the baby from putting pressure on to her bone.
“Toni now has to sit down and bump her way down the stairs. Trying to get upstairs is no better.
“She often cries it is so painful. She has already lost one baby and she doesn’t want to lose another. Dundee City Council just won’t help at all.”
Alongside the difficulties with the stairs, Mrs Hunt also says that her neighbours are proving a nightmare.
“Toni has been urinated on while walking down the steps. She has had numerous sleepless nights due to the constant noise and banging.
“She has had her house broken into by someone in her close he was sent to jail but once he was let back out, he was able to go live in the same house straight away.
“There is also someone who sits in the close smoking grass.
“It makes me so angry. No young, pregnant woman should have to endure this sort of pain every day to get to her front door.
“She is frightened she will lose her baby all the time,” Mrs Hunt added.
A Dundee City Council spokesman said: “We have been talking to the family in detail and offering advice about different housing options that could be considered by the tenant.
“Various suggestions have been made to try and resolve the situation. We are offering the family continuing help and assistance.”
