Legal action has been started by Dundee City Council after Travellers set up another camp in a Dundee park.
The group of Travellers appeared on the site in Caird Park, yards from the Ronnie McIntosh Athletics Stadium, on Sunday.
It is understood the Travellers had moved from the site on grounds close to the Douglas Medical Centre, which is now empty.
Council workers were there recently removing small amounts of rubbish.
The legal action to move the group away from the Caird Park site was launched on Monday, according to the council.
Dundonians using the park said the Travellers settling on the site was “a joke”.
One resident said: “They really should not be there, full stop.
“There is no real excuse for the reasons they are there, other than it is completely free for them.
“The site they are meant to be using in Tealing must not be up to much if they are choosing to pitch up anywhere they want.
“Or maybe they’re not up for paying the rent required to use it. Either way, it’s a joke they have pitched up in a park.”
Members of the Travelling community refused to comment when approached.
A Dundee City Council spokeswoman said: “We have started the legal process to have the Travellers removed from Caird Park.”
Councillor and Labour leader Kevin Keenan said it was “disappointing” that Travellers had set up a camp at Caird Park after another group was cleared off the land last month.
He added: “The real concern is that it’s a public park used by the public and these groups always seem to leave rubbish, which is costing the city money to clear up, as well as the court orders to move them on.
“These groups do not pay tax while they’re in Dundee and make no contribution to the city while they are here.
“The money that is spent moving them on and clearing up their mess is taking money away from the council, which it could use to employ teachers in our schools.”
