More than 1,000 homes and businesses in the Dundee area will get BT fibre broadband as part of the £410 million Digital Scotland partnership.
They are among more than 39,000 homes and businesses in 37 places across the country which will be able to access services at speeds of up to 80Mbps by this summer.
Bill Campbell, depute convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee, said: “For a number of years we have been working towards growing Dundee as a thriving regional centre with a diverse economy.
“Provision of superfast fibre broadband in the city centre forms an integral part of that and I am delighted that more premises will be connected as a result of this investment.”
Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the development was an important milestone for the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband partnership.
“It’s fantastic news that these communities and businesses will soon begin to see the benefits of high- quality digital connectivity, making them more economically viable in the long term,” she said.
