Dundee’s Malmaison hotel is now taking bookings from February 3, despite the chain’s chief executive saying the opening date is provisional.
Gary Davis confirmed the hotel now hoped to open in the first week of next month, although he did not want to commit to the date fully.
However, the Malmaison website is now taking bookings for the hotel and restaurant from February 3.
Speaking to The Courier, Mr Davis said: “Obviously with the issues we’ve had with the developer and contractor, we’re reluctant to give a firm opening date.
“The date we now have is February 3 but we are not going to make a commitment to that date until at least next week. We need to be absolutely sure the developer is on track.”
The boutique hotel had been due to open on December 1 but severe flooding caused the opening to be delayed.
Bedrooms, the brasserie and the lobby were all damaged in the incident on the night of November 27/28.
Since then the opening has been plagued with delays as contractors tried to restore the damaged building so Malmaison could take possession.
Scaffolding went up at the hotel just before Christmas, while new floorboards arrived earlier this week.
The delay in the opening forced the hotel to cancel hundreds of Christmas and New Year bookings, leaving some customers disgruntled.
Mr Davis added: “I know the delayed opening has disappointed a lot of people especially over the Christmas and the New Year period.
“We had a great response from the public in Dundee and beyond with bookings and we need to win back people’s trust.
“We haven’t taken on the running of the building from the contractor yet but it has our name and brand on it.
“We are planning to run a number of events to make it up to people but again, obviously as I’ve said we don’t want to commit to anything just yet.”
A spokeswoman for Purple PR, a London-based company which handles media inquiries for the Malmaison chain, said they hoped an opening date could be confirmed later on Friday.
