Teacher accused of pushing pupil at Dundee primary

A teacher has been accused of pushing a pupil at Rowantree Primary School in Linlathen.
Jeroen Van Der Kaay will appear before a General Teaching Council for Scotland disciplinary panel next week.
He was newly qualified and working at the school during his induction year when the alleged incident happened in June 2011.
The charge is that he acted inappropriately towards an unnamed pupil by shouting at him and taking hold of him by his shoulders or neck as the boy got up from his chair.
Mr Van Der Kaay is then said to have “ushered him towards the door of the classroom and pushed him causing him to lose his balance and stumble”.
It is alleged that he is unfit to teach. If the charge is found proved, the panel has the power to issue a reprimand, place conditions on Mr Van Der Kaay’s teaching registration or strike him off the register, which would prevent him from working as a teacher.
An education department spokesman said: “This individual does not work for Dundee City Council.”
