A Scottish charity has hit the right note with a group of ukulele enthusiasts in Dundee.
Happy Ukes, who meet in the Admiral Lounge each week, raised £1,000 for Motor Neurone Disease Scotland.
The charity, which offers a range of specialist services to sufferers, struck a chord with Happy Ukes, as some of the players have witnessed loved ones who have succumbed to the illness.
The group raised the cash through a number of concerts including a ‘Friends and Family’ evening. Key to the fundraising effort was two visits to Tesco Riverside when Happy Ukes played in the foyer, raising more than £400.
“The customers were very supportive as, on our first visit, there was a dreadful storm raging keeping most sensible folk indoors,” said Danka Reid, who coordinated the effort.
“Through the various concerts we raised more than £900 and all our members agreed that we should make the total up to £1,000 from club funds.”
