Scottish Water apologises after sewage leak at Balmossie pumping station

Scottish Water has apologised after sewage leaked from a Dundee pumping station.
A video posted to the internet showed sewage and dirty water flowing out of Balmossie pumping station in Broughty Ferry, just yards from the shoreline.
Although the leak was dealt with before it reached the water, it was the second reported spill in the area in recent weeks.
On Friday the water firm had investigated reports that sewage had flowed on to the beach at Douglas Terrace.
Councillor Laurie Bidwell had reported that leak, and he said he was concerned about the condition of pumping stations in the city.
He said: “Scottish Water needs to get its partners in the Tay Waste Water Project to get on top of tackling maintenance issues in its pumping stations.”
A Scottish Water spokesman said: “We are aware of a leak from an air valve at Balmossie. We carried out an inspection of this area last week, so any leak has been very short term.
“We have a permanent repair and reinstatement of the area under way, which will be completed shortly.”
The firm said last week it had twice inspected Broughty Ferry beach after Mr Bidwell’s reports.
