A man arrested after a young Broughty Ferry woman was found dead in a Glasgow flat is due in court today.
Katy Rourke, 25, was originally from Dundee but had been living with her sister in Glasgow, where her body was found this week.
A 26-year-old man is due in court to face charges over her death.
It comes after police launched a murder inquiry into the discovery of her body in a flat on Minto Street, in the Govan area of the city, at around 5.05pm on Wednesday.
Katy was a former pupil of Grove Academy and has two sisters, Gill and Jen. It is understood she had been living with the latter in Glasgow, in between working on cruise ships for P&O in Australia.
Residents in Broughty Ferry said they were stunned by what had happened. One said: “(Her parents) Dawn and Phil had only been back from Glasgow a few minutes when I spoke to them. I just couldn’t believe it.
“A number of locals would have been keen to first foot the family so I went around all the neighbours, warning them to give them some space as they need time to take in what has happened.”
On the day Katy’s body was found, friends had appealed on social media for information on her whereabouts.
It is unclear whether police were tipped off or whether an emergency call had been made for them to attend the address at Minto Street. They conducted door-to-door inquiries and looked at CCTV images.
A post-mortem examination carried out on Katy’s body on Thursday confirmed foul play and the suspect who was reported to be in hospital on the same day was due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.
Katy’s parents Phil, 55, and Dawn, 54, were being comforted at their detached house in Broughty Ferry but were too distressed to talk about their daughter’s death.
