Johnson Matthey Battery Systems in Dundee is under threat of closure with the potential for the loss of around 60 jobs.
Technology expert Chris van der Kuyl has criticised a company for proposing to close its Dundee operation with the loss of up to 60 jobs.
Johnson Matthey Battery Systems at Wester Gourdie was involved in projects for major car manufacturers.
Under its previous guise of Axeon, the plant produced the technology for power packs for the McLaren P1 hypercar.
The technology, media and entertainment entrepreneur, who founded 4J Studios in Dundee, said Johnson Matthey had an opportunity to lead in a market he believed is about to grow exponentially, adding: “This company clearly doesn’t understand where the future of vehicle technology lies. Let’s find a partner to take this talented team forward.”
Johnson Matthey said it had started a consultation period with staff at all three of its UK sites as it looked to restructure the business.
A reduced Dundee workforce could still be moved to a smaller city site to continue battery development work.
