A memorial fund will be created to commemorate a leading light in the Dundee V&A project who was tragically killed in a cycling accident.
Moira Gemmill will be remembered in a gallery in the new museum as a way of paying tribute to her role in the flagship development.
A memorial will also be created in her memory as part of the V&A’s annual Illustration Awards – in which she played a significant role – with the prize for the overall winner given in her name.
Moira spent 13 years at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London where she had overseen 40 projects to redesign and renew galleries and public spaces.
These transformed the building and allowed its outstanding collections to be better displayed.
In April 2015, shortly after leaving the V&A to take up a new position at the Royal Collection, Moira was killed in a cycling accident on her way to work in London.
V&A Dundee director Philip Long said: “Moira was one of the original driving forces behind the development of V&A Dundee.
“She was involved from the very beginning and she is very much missed.
“In response to this loss and in recognition of her outstanding achievements, we have established this fund in her memory.”
