Learner driver who caused mothers and toddlers to dive for safety is banned from the road

A Dundee learner driver who caused mothers and toddlers to dive for safety when he careered off the road was banned from driving yesterday.
Steven Bell, 27, had only taken about 10 lessons when he got behind the wheel and lost control on a corner near St Boswell’s Terrace on December 4.
Pedestrians, including mothers and children, on both sides of the road were forced to take evasive action.
Bell, of St Boswells Terrace, subsequently pleaded guilty to driving dangerously, failing to keep his car under proper control, mounting the nearside pavement, crossing the carriageway and mounting the offside pavement, causing pedestrians to take evasive action to avoid being struck.
He also admitted to driving without a licence and without insurance.
Yesterday at Dundee Sheriff Court he was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
Bell will also be required to sit and pass an extended test before he is allowed to gain a licence.
He was also ordered to complete 140 hours of unpaid work within six months.
