Dozens of pole dance instructors flocked to Dundee at the weekend as part of the country’s first national pole dance instructor convention.
Some 27 dancers travelled from far and wide to stage exhibitions and share knowledge and techniques with fellow pole enthusiasts.
The event was organised by Dundonian instructor Heather Thomson, 31, who explained: “The idea was to get instructors together so we could all learn from each other.
“I have a studio here in Dundee and there are also classes in Perth and Arbroath.
“We’ve got people from Glasgow, Edinburgh ad Aberdeen here today, so to have people attend from all over Scotland is great.Click here for a full photo gallery“We did workshops yesterday and had a quiz before staying overnight. It was great to see everyone and hopefully more people will become involved.”
Pole dancing may not be the most mainstream hobby, but among the participants at the convention were two male dancers.
Theo Robertson, 26, from Aberdeen, is a former Scottish champion and now owns his own studio in Aberdeen.
Theo admits that though many men are still afraid of getting involved, he has no regrets.
He said: “I first got involved when my ex-girlfriend kept badgering me to go along with her.
“When I went I found that I really enjoyed it.
“People still attach a bit of a stigma when it comes to pole dancing, but it is great for building core muscle.
“I just see it as a form of dancing. It’s a lot of fun.”
Dundonian dancer David Morrison said: “I saw videos on YouTube and thought I would give it a go.
“There’s much more to it than the image people have in their minds when they hear about pole dancing.”
