A man who used an 11-year-old girl’s phone to download child abuse images claimed he did so to bait paedophiles.
Stevan Hogg, 23, admitted having indecent images of children on June 14, when he appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
The court heard the phone was discovered in Hogg’s possession while he slept.
In evidence the court was told of a text message which claimed Hogg looked down a girl’s pyjamas.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson said police saw five pictures on the device then analysed computers found at the address uncovering “concerning” web searches for child abuse terms.
She added: “He said it was an addiction that he was addicted to scaring people. He said he was doing it to lure them in.”
Hogg told police he would “lead paedophiles on” and pretend to be a police officer to scare them.
The court heard the five images and one video, which ranged in severity, had been sent to Hogg by unknown persons via a messenger KIK.
Police were contacted and learned that Hogg had used a PlayStation to chat to girls.
He has also been using search terms online including ‘preteen model’ and ‘young porn’.
When questioned by police, Hogg, of Ward Road, told them his profile picture on KIK messenger made him look younger and said younger children had been contacting him there.
He also claimed paedophiles often contacted him offering pictures, and because he was drunk he accepted.
Sentence was deferred for reports until October 14 and Hogg was released on bail.
