Flights from Dundee to Amsterdam start in May

The first flight from Dundee Airport to Amsterdam will take off on May 23.

Airline Flybe is now selling tickets for flights between Dundee and Amsterdam online.

They are the first ever scheduled international flights from the airport.

Previous flights to international destinations such as Majorca had all been charter flights.

The first flight from Dundee to Amsterdam departs at 12.25pm on May 23.

The cheapest available ticket for the two-hour flight is just £17.88.

However, anyone hoping to make a day-trip to The Netherlands will be disappointed.

Flights from Schipol Airport to Dundee take off at 10.50am, so an overnight stay in Amsterdam will be a necessity.

The cheapest flight from Amsterdam to Dundee will cost around £26.

UK Aviation Minister Robert Goodwill said: “It is fantastic to see Flybe launch this new service between Dundee and Amsterdam, giving the Scottish city its first international route.

“Our smaller airports are vital engines for local economies, connecting the UK and overseas destinations and opening up opportunities. That is why the UK Government is backing new regional air routes with £7m of funding to drive investment and boost growth across the country.”

Vincent Hodder, Flybe’s chief revenue officer added: “We are pleased to be the first airlineto provide Dundee travellers with this crucial international air link. It is a another example ofour ongoing commitment to strengthening our position as the airline of choice for customers who have a need for travel but live in areas not well served by other airlines.”

Inglis Lyon, managing director of Dundee Airport operator HIAL, said: “We are delighted thatFlybe’s new Dundee to Amsterdam route is now on sale. This has been a priority target forDundee Airport for some time and we are grateful to our partners Dundee City Council and Transport Scotland for their support, and to Flybe for showing confidence in Dundee.

“This is asignificant milestone for the airport and the city.

“It gives Dundee its first international route aswell as access to one of Europe’s biggest and best connected hub airports.”

Scottish Government transport minister Derek Mackay added: “This is reallyexciting news for Dundee and I congratulate everyone involved with bringing this new high profileservice to the city.

“The link to Amsterdam will bring huge benefits to Scottish businessesby improving access to global markets.”

Dundee City Council leader Ken Guild said:“A considerable amount of time and efforthas gone into bringing this exciting new route to Dundee Airport.

“I am sure that leisure andbusiness travellers alike will be keen to use this link to one of Europe’s biggest hub airportseither to connect with onward flights or to stay in the Netherlands.

“Equally it also offers visitorsfrom the continent a new gateway to Scotland creating opportunities for businesses inDundee to tap into that fresh market generated by tourism and trade traffic.”

Flights will operate six days a week.
