Councillors asked to back naming road ‘Nablus Avenue’

A road near Ninewells Hospital is set to be named after Dundee’s Palestinian twin town.
Councillors will be asked on Monday to approve the currently nameless bus link road being formally known as Nablus Avenue.
The stretch runs between Tom McDonald Avenue on the medi-park and Mariner Drive on the technology park.
A report says: “This is to recognise the twinning of Dundee with Nablus and is seen as an appropriate location as the road is in close proximity to other roads that are named in recognition of other twin cities.”
There are already Wurzburg Court and Wurzburg Loan on the medi-park, along with Orleans Place in Menzieshill and Clovis Duveau Drive off Perth Road, named after a leading light in the Dundee-Orleans twinning.
Dundee and Nablus have been twinned since 1980.
The group Action Palestine told the council they were disappointed that a more prominent street had not been chosen to bear the Nablus name.
The council report claimed the location featured high quality science and technology-based industries and was not low profile.
