A man has admitted assaulting a man who had been drinking in his flat.
During the incident Brian McDonald, 49, of Baldovan Terrace, was heard to shout: “I’m going to stab you,” before striking David Petrie with a knife.
McDonald admitted on February 15 at the common close at Baldovan Terrace and in the street he assaulted Mr Petrie, presented a knife at him, chased after him, threatened to stab him and struck him repeatedly on the body with a knife to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
The court heard Mr Petrie, Jamie Hughes and Kerry Hughes had been drinking with others before they rang McDonald and asked if he was having a party.
They met him around 9.45pm and went to his flat to drink more.
An argument broke out and McDonald and Mr Petrie started to fight.
A glass was smashed and McDonald was heard to should “You little b******.”
Mr Petrie ran into the street, followed by McDonald with a knife in his hand.
Depute fiscal Trina Sinclair said: “The accused was seen to approach witness Petrie and state something similar to ‘I’m going to f****** stab you’ before witness Petrie fell to the ground and the accused struck him repeatedly.”
He returned to his home where police traced him and found he had a serious injury to his hand which he said he sustained while defending himself. A blood-stained knife was seen underneath the sofa.
The court heard Mr Petrie had a one-inch wound to his loin, a wound to his arm and abrasions to the back of his right shoulder, chest and armpit.
McDonald required surgery for a wound on his finger.
During his time in hospital he told officers: “I think I might have hurt someone in self defence.
“I might have stabbed someone … I think I’ve done something terrible, I think I’ve killed someone.”
Sheriff Alasdair Brown deferred sentence for reports and a restriction of liberty order assessment to February 11.
