Council showing contempt by ignoring Dundee V&A queries, community chief claims
ByThe Courier Reporter
A West End community leader has slammed the council over its “abject failure” to deal with residents’ concerns about the V&A at Dundee.
In February, Andrew McBride, chairman of the area’s community council, wrote to the local authority demanding an explanation for the projected £31 million overspend and 18-month delay of the iconic design museum.
More than two months later, Mr McBride has still not received a response to the letter outlining the community council’s concerns and has now submitted a formal complaint.
He told The Courier: “Because of their failure to reply, I accuse the chief executive and the leader of the administration of their abject failure to be open and honest or to explain their decisions to the community council.”
He added that the council was treating the people of Dundee with the “utmost contempt” by failing to explain how the V&A project came to run over budget.
A Dundee City Council spokesman said they had “recieved correspondence” from Mr McBride and would reply.
