Campaigner facing trial over Ninewells Hospital protest
ByMark Mackay
A grieving husband who has been fighting for justice for his late wife for over a decade will appear for trial at Dundee Sheriff Court on June 13 to face charges relating to a protest at Ninewells Hospital.
James Kelly, 62, of Broadlie Drive in Dalry, Ayrshire, faces a charge alleging that he engaged in a course of conduct likely to cause fear and alarm to consultant Dr Brodie Paterson on dates between September 9 and 24 last year.
The charge alleges that he repeatedly attended at the hospital, carried out a protest and displayed a board there which detailed information relating to the medical care of his late wife and derogatory remarks in relation to Dr Paterson.
Helen Kelly, 43, collapsed with a brain haemorrhage just 48 hours after seeing medics at Crosshouse Hospital, near Kilmarnock in 2001.
Staff at the hospital’s accident and emergency department sent Mrs Kelly home after advising her to see her GP.
Dr Paterson is understood to have contributed to a subsequent inquiry into the care provided to Mrs Kelly.
An intermediate diet has been set for June 13 later this year.
