A stunning new bird’s eye view has revealed the progress made on Dundee’s V&A Museum.
With the coffer dam completed, builders on the site have begun forming the essential groundworks for the £80m project.
The photo, posted on the Facebook page Meh Dundee, shows two parts of the building’s foundations taking shape as various ground beams and service pits are set to be cast in concrete.
Nick Day, the chairman of the Dundee Civic Trust, said the developments in the museum, as well as headway being made in other areas of the Waterfront development , was encouraging.
The picture also shows the work being carried out on the Slessor Gardens.
Mr Day said the building will be a “striking landmark” and will encourage further developments.
He added: “The civic trust is highly supportive about the progress of the Waterfront and we’re pleased with the progress. All the construction taking place is one step closer to revitalising the city and reconnecting the city with the river, which has been an issue over the last few years.
“As for the new V&A Museum, the building itself is a really bold and imaginative step towards bringing further quality designs to the Waterfront.
“We do recognise this is not a short term project and will take time, but it is still encouraging to see the building
starting to take shape.”
“Hopefully the construction of Kengo Kuma’s design will encourage other quality designers to come to Dundee and help make the Waterfront look as best as it possibly can.”
Wilson McCracken, the design manager for the V&A project, said progress is going “smoothly”.
He said: “It is a complicated building to construct so it is vital every process is meticulous and going to plan so far everything is running smoothly.
“After the various pits and ground beams have been cast in concrete then we can start work on erecting the core walls.”
The building is expected to be completed and handed over to the city council by December 2017 and is due to open to the public a year later.
City Council leader Ken Guild said: “I am looking forward to seeing Kengo Kuma’s breathtaking vision become reality.”
