Dundee pitches its bid to be UK City of Culture 2017
ByGraeme Ogston
The hard work is over and now the wait begins.
Dundee’s UK City of Culture 2017 bid team faced a 100-minute grilling at the hands of the competition judges following their presentation today in Derry-Londonderry, the current holder of the crown.
Dundee was the first city to state its case ahead of Hull, Leicester and Swansea Bay. The competition winner will be announced on Wednesday.
Following the presentation, Dundee bid leader Stewart Murdoch said the team had “done all it could” to bring the title home.
Lyall Bruce, the team’s technical adviser, said the team had “nailed it”.
Dundee’s bid has been promoted as being for all of the people of the city and beyond, and the strength of support for the team has been clear.
A constant stream of messages have been posted online wishing the Dundee bid team luck and hoping they can secure the title.
The presentation was the result of almost a year of hard work and follows the submission of a 132-page bid document.
