The future of Dundee’s Remploy factory looks bleak after workers discovered it has lost a bid for a £6 million Ministry of Defence contract.
The clothing order had been highlighted as a deal which could have saved the Dunsinane factory, which is linked to plants in Stirling and Clydebank, from closure.
After receiving the disappointment, staff were informed that they could leave early with their full severance pay package.
Dundee City East MSP Shona Robison said that to award Remploy’s big contract to a north African company in the middle of the bidding process for new owners was “just astonishing and further underlines that the UK Government is completely out of touch and disparaging of the views and needs of the Remploy workforce.”
Dundee City West MSP Joe FitzPatrick said: “I am hugely concerned about the implications of this.”
