Emergency repairs to the gas main in East Dock Street will begin on Saturday.
Scotland Gas Networks said that for safety reasons a 200m section of the eastbound inside lane from Peep O’ Day Lane would be closed for the duration of the work, starting from 8am.
Signs will be in place to alert approaching traffic.
SGN team manager Alan Blyth said: “We understand that roadworks can be frustrating for road users and would like to thank them for their patience while we complete these repairs.
“We will do everything we can to minimise disruption and to complete the work as quickly as possible.”
It is not known how long the repairs will take. Working hours will be 8am to 4.15pm but extra may be necessary.
“We are mindful of those people who live in the area and we will try to minimise noisy activities where possible,” Mr Blyth said.
