‘Lowest of the low heartless thieves steal playgroup youngsters’ Christmas
ByThe Courier Reporter
A Dundee playgroup has been left distraught after thieves helped themselves to the youngsters’ festive savings.
The Finmill Community Playgroup in Fintry, which has members as young as 18 months, had organised a sponsored walk to raise money for a special visit from Santa.
Margaret Farquharson, from the Findcastle Street playgroup, said the incident was “heart-breaking” for the children.
“I was gutted when I saw it. I felt sick,” she said. “It is a lot to take out of our Christmas money. It really is soul-destroying.
“It is bad enough to take things from shops, but to steal from kids is ridiculous it is the lowest of the low.
“I’d ask the thieves to give the money back, even if they just put it back through the door. This is heart-breaking for the kids.”
A police spokesman said they believed the theft of the three-figure sum from the playgroup, which is based at the Finmill Community Centre, took place between 9.15am on Monday and 9.15am on Tuesday.
Anyone with any information should contact the police on 101.
The youngsters’ story has already inspired some kind-hearted locals to try to help. For more, see Saturday’s Dundee edition.
