Man accused of strangling former partner in Arbroath

A man is facing trial accused of strangling his ex-partner until she started to lose consciousness after pushing her backwards over the railings of a bridge “to the danger of her life”.
Connor McGregor is alleged to have attacked Danielle Lawson on September 12 in Wardmill Road, Arbroath.
He is first alleged to have behaved in a threatening and abusive manner by threatening to kill her and Gary Lloyd. McGregor is then said to have assaulted her.
Prosecutors say he then pushed her against metal railings at a bridge before grabbing her throat and pushing her backwards over the railings.
McGregor is accused of then compressing her throat so she couldn’t breathe freely and began to lose consciousness, repeatedly punched her on the head, pushed her to the ground and repeatedly kicked her on the head and body.
McGregor, 21, a prisoner at HMP Perth, pleaded not guilty on indictment to charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and of assault to severe injury and danger of life.
Sheriff Tom Hughes continued the case to trial next month at Dundee Sheriff Court.
