A property developer has admitted causing a quagmire in Mill O’ Mains – but said he hasn’t had the time to deal with it yet.
Pensioners living in a swampy construction site will have to endure the flooding misery this Christmas after already living with it for more than a year.
Now the developer has pledged to tackle the run from its new builds affecting early in 2016.
Residents living in Lewis Terrace have been swamped by run off water and Dorothy Campbell, a spokeswoman for her row of houses, said the problems only began last year and the flooding has even caused her to lose her lawn, which was washed away.
She said: “I have lived here for 35 years and never had problems.”
After her grass lawn washed away, Dorothy put down Astroturf to make the garden easier to maintain for her and her husband in old age, but because of the water it has become slippery and dangerous.
She added: “My real grass was washed away. I then spent £3,500 on my garden and it’s a state.
“It is an absolute nightmare and it has been going on for long enough.
“I feel the council have let us down in their obligation to protect us.”
Local councillor Brian Gordon added: “They are just going gung ho with the building without dealing with the problems they are causing for residents.”
Sandbags have been piled up outside a property in Harris Terrace which is next to another development area but Homes Scotland has only pledged to deal with water affecting a row at Lewis Terrace.
Speaking to Dundee City councillors for approval of the erection of two more houses Malcolm McBride of Home Scotland said: “We are very aware of the run off issues that we, Home Scotland, will deal with.
“We do have a commitment to solve that, and the flooding in the park.
“I’m sorry it just hasn’t been done yet.”
Planning consent had already been granted for the new homes but additional permission was required to change the footprint of two homes intended to have disabled access.
Afterwards Mr McBride said: “Home Scotland apologise for not having executed the works to the rear of properties at 19 to 24 Lewis Terrace.
“The focus over recent months has been to complete works which were the subject of road closures and disruption to traffic movement around the estate.
“It was important for us to ensure that the roadworks were completed as programmed to allow the free flow of the bus services and emergency services during the period when our contractors have vacated the site for the holiday period.
“We will prioritise these works early in the year.”
