A man who was charged with an armed robbery at a city newsagent has been released from custody by the Crown without appearing in court.
Police officers swooped to arrest the 30-year-old Dundee resident on Friday night and charged him over the weekend in connection with the incident at Super City News in Lochee Road.
The robbery, during which a thief is alleged to have been in possession of a knife before stealing a three-figure sum of cash from a teenage member of staff, took place on January 31.
Police issued a statement on Sunday which stated they had detained a man on Friday night and added that he was subsequently arrested and charged in relation to the crime and was to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday.
However, it emerged at the court that the procurator fiscal’s office in Dundee had decided to release the man from custody prior to his expected appearance.
A spokesman for Dundee Division said: “Police Scotland arrested a 30-year-old male in connection with an armed robbery at Super City News and reported him to the procurator fiscal.
“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
