Thug attacked former partner for not buying him food from chip shop

A thug who attacked his ex-partner because she failed to pick him up something from the chip shop has been jailed for six months.

Paul Larnyoh, 43, of Arklay Street, admitted on October 8 on Buttars Road he assaulted Dorothy Whyte and repeatedly struck her on the face to her injury, while on bail.

The court heard Larnyoh and Ms Whyte had been in a relationship since January but she had been trying to break it off.

Larnyoh refused to accept the relationship was over and repeatedly turned up at her house.

Depute Fiscal Charmaine Gilmartin told the court on the day in question Larnyoh had spent the previous night at Ms Whyte’s house and left around mid-morning.

“The complainer was in the house with a child and a friend,” Mrs Gilmartin said. “She had gone to a chip shop to purchase food for the child and friend.

“They were sitting in the house when the accused returned.”

Mrs Gilmartin said Larnyoh was upset Ms Whyte had not purchased any food for him and he began to lose his temper.

As she tried to get him out of the house he struck her. When she tried to remove him he struck her again to the eye.

Ms Whyte’s friend rang 999 and she was taken to Ninewells Hospital’s A&E department.

Mrs Gilmartin said: “She was found to have swelling to the left side of her face but no other injuries.”

Larnyoh handed himself in to the police later that night.

His agent said: “There’s very little I can say in mitigation. His position is he was acting defensively.

“He accepts the behaviour was entirely disproportionate and unacceptable. He is addicted to heroin. He accepts that this was completely unacceptable.”

Sentencing, Sheriff Kenneth McGowan told Larnyoh: “You have a very poor record, particularly one that’s peppered with crimes of violence stretching back about 10 years.

“In the circumstances I’m satisfied that only a custodial sentence is appropriate.”

Larnyoh was sentenced to six months in prison.
