Residents in Dundee could face a “big change” in the way their rubbish is collected, according to the city’s environment convener.
Craig Melville has admitted that nothing is being ruled out as a review of recycling and waste collection takes place.
That could see weekly waste collections scrapped in a bid to increase recycling.
Residents can expect to find out if changes will come early in the new year.
Mr Melville said: “I would like to stress that when you talk about fortnightly bin collections, you’re still getting a weekly collection.
“If you’re collecting residual waste on a fortnightly basis, you would be collecting recyclable materials also on an alternative fortnightly basis, including glass, paper, plastics.
“You would still have the same bin capacity it’s just about collecting waste in a different way.
“The reason is to maximise the amount of waste we can actually recycle.
“There is a load of work going on and it’s quite complex. In tenement areas, we wouldn’t have the room to give everybody different bins. The review is ongoing.
“If you give someone a bin that you can collect paper, glass and plastic in, they obviously they don’t need their residual grey bin collected every week.
“We need to change the way in which waste is collected from domestic properties to maximise the material we collect.
“It’s potentially a big change. We’ve not ruled anything out we’re looking at everything.”
