Drumgeith Park ‘loch’ will be allowed to drain naturally By The Courier Reporter January 14 2016, 1:58pm January 14 2016, 1:58pm Share Drumgeith Park ‘loch’ will be allowed to drain naturally Share via Facebook Twitter Linkedin Whatsapp Messenger Email Post link https://www.thecourier.co.uk/news/dundee/241855/drumgeith-park-loch-will-be-allowed-to-drain-naturally/ Copy Link The park has been under water for a week. A flooded Dundee park is likely to remain a ‘loch’ for days. Drumgeith Park in Whitfield was submerged within minutes last week, after the Dighty Burn burst its banks due to heavy rain. The water was so deep the football pitch’s goalposts almost disappeared underwater. Flood water has also made its way into the Fairfield Sports and Social Club and staff had to be rescued. Water is receding, with Dundee City Council allowing the area to drain naturally. A spokesman for the authority said: “We are continuing to monitor the situation extremely closely on a daily basis. “Water levels are decreasing and we are letting it drain naturally. “We would advise the public not to go near the water and we will be putting up signage highlighting the dangers.” Despite the warnings, a number of locals have taken to the water for daredevil stunts. A 22-year-old electrician paddled out on an inflatable bed after losing a bet. And following this feat another man went out on to the water on jet skis. No rain is forecast for the rest of the week in Dundee, but there is a danger of ice due to freezing temperatures.
