A former Abertay University student, who began his studies more than 70 years ago, has become reacquainted with the institution, after it launched an appeal to contact old alumni.
Jim Gordon started a five-year part-time textiles course in 1937, which he completed in 1948 following his war service.
He later became a member of staff and retired from Dundee College of Technology in 1987, having reached the position of head of the textile science department, seven years before the institution became Abertay University.
Mr Gordon said: “I studied as a part-time student as did my two brothers, and my son gained a CNAA degree in civil engineering at the ‘Tech’.
“I then became external examiner for the City and Guilds of London Institute, which was the examining body at the time, and did so until I became a member of staff.
“I served as a lecturer, head of department and various administrative posts until March 1987, a period of 50 years including war service.
“My advice to all students today is enter your first appointment with an open mind. If students find a ready market for whatever course they follow then the university is continuing to be successful.”
