Dundee student doctors will show support for colleagues down south
ByThe Courier Reporter
A Dundee University student doctor has vowed to support his colleagues down south as debate over changes to junior doctors’ contracts continues.
Lewis Hughes, 21, fears Government plans to change doctors’ terms and conditions will see hospitals become filled with overworked and tired medical staff.
He believes if the Conservative plan goes ahead, thousands of medical staff will quit the UK, leaving the NHS in crisis.
Mr Hughes and his colleagues plan to take to the streets on November 18 to show solidarity with junior doctors throughout the UK and urge the Westminster Government to reconsider.
He said: “We have had a massive response to the protest.
“Some people may think that changes to junior doctor contracts will only affect people down south, but this is about all of the UK.
“We have a great system in the United Kingdom, but we are doing our best to push young doctors away.
“These changes would mean we will have hospitals full of tired doctors, and I don’t think that helps anyone.”
