Roadworks which have caused major delays through Stobswell may be completed by the end of the week.
Gas firm SGN who have been carrying out the extensive works since the start of February has said if all goes well, the gas works will be completed and the road resurfaced by Friday.
Meanwhile, they have recently introduced a manually controlled traffic light system in an attempt to ease congestion.
The temporary traffic lights will aim to reduce the build-up of traffic during rush hour times at the forked junction of Forfar Road, Dura Road and Albert Street, which has caused complaints.
A spokesman for SGN said: “We are now in the final stage of our project to upgrade the gas network in Albert Street. For everyone’s safety we now have three-way temporary traffic lights in place at the junction of Albert Street, Dura Street and Forfar Road.
“We are manually controlling the lights at peak times to help ease congestion. All being well, we will complete our work and reinstate the road surface by the end of the week.
“We appreciate roadworks can be frustrating and would like to thank road users and the community for their patience while we carry out this essential work.”
The delays currently caused by the works have made the city’s biggest bus firm Xplore Dundee vow to put on more regular services.
It said that its 15, 17 and 32/33 services had been subject to “severe delays” due to the works.
A spokeswoman said diverting bus routes was not possible but confirmed that the company will put on extra vehicles.
