A section of pool at Dundee’s new multi-million-pound Olympia swimming centre was closed after a woman trapped her toe under a section of the moveable floor.
The incident, which left the woman in tears according to witnesses, happened as she tried to leave the Olympia’s activity pool following the shallow water aerobics class on Wednesday night.
Another woman who attended the class said that she “felt the tiles moving” while she was in the pool and was now “scared to go back”.
She said: “We were at the other end of the pool when the class finished and could see something was happening.
“One of the staff members told us to leave by the other side. The woman was stuck. She looked stressed and in pain and she was crying.
“I don’t know if her foot was caught in a vent or if it was between the tiles on the floor, but I heard one of the staff saying to lift up the tile to see her foot.
“I’m scared to go back after it. It is quite worrying, it could have happened to a child.”
The £31.5 million centre in East Whale Lane opened last June. The following month, safety arrangements there were criticised by a 26-year-old woman who broke her footriding a flume.
A spokesman for Leisure and Culture Dundee said: “Maintenance work was carried out and the pool reopened fully this morning.
“A small section of the pool was shut for a very short time to allow this work to be carried out.”
