Indian restaurant serves up 200 turkey dinners for Dundee’s homeless

An Indian restaurant swapped curries for turkeys to help feed homeless people at Christmas.
Goa restaurant in Broughty Ferry donated 200 turkey dinners, with all the trimmings, to the Dundee Foodbank on Christmas Eve.
Restaurateur and landlord Ibrar Ibrahim, 51, came up with the idea after being touched by the generosity and hard work of Scotland’s busiest foodbank.
Mr Ibrahim, originally from the Hilltown, asked for the help of the restaurant in realising his idea, to cook and provide as many dinners as possible.
He said: “The chef and staff at Goa came in especially early to prepare and cook the dinners before the restaurant’s opening hours. I’m so grateful for their help I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them.
“I brought my grandchildren, Adam and Humza, who volunteered to help pack the food into containers.”
Ken Linton, manager of the Dundee Foodbank, collected the 200 packed dinners, ready for distribution to the city’s homeless shelters on Christmas Day.
Mr Linton said: “It’s great to get a donation of this size and it really helped us feed the poorest people at a tough time of year.”
