Thieves stole the car of Dundee FC player Gavin Rae by snatching the keys from his house.
The culprits opened the door of Rae’s family home in the Westhill area of Aberdeen late on Monday.
He had just returned from working for BT Sport on the Arbroath v Rangers game at Gayfield that evening and was in his house when the keys of his Volkswagen Tiguan were grabbed from a table in his hall.
The 35-year-old footballer was left shocked and angry, particularly because his wife and children were also home at the time.
“I ran out and this guy was reversing out of my drive,” Rae said.
“There was nothing I could do to stop him. When I got home I locked the car, so they’ve opened the front door of the house and reached in to get the keys.”
The locks in his house have been changed and Rae has been told by the police that at least two people were acting suspiciously in the area when the theft occurred.
“A neighbour saw a couple of guys trying doors and called the police,” he added. “When I ran out, there was another car in the street and they drove away together, so I think someone else got done as well.”
