Mother brands Dundee brothers’ attackers as ‘disgusting’

The mother of three boys who were brutally assaulted on New Year’s Day has branded their attackers “disgusting”.

Roslynn Smith made the comments after brothers Khalem, 15, Tyler, 16, and Ross, 20, were assaulted by part of a group of men and women as they walked home in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

The incident which occurred between 12.30am and 2am at the junction of Victoria Street and Brown Constable Street left the 16-year old so badly injured he had to be taken to Ninewells Hospital and treated for bruising to his face and a broken wrist.

Roslynn said: “It’s disgusting that a group of grown men can do that to young people.

“You are lucky if my 15 and 16-year-old look older than 12. They could have killed them.

“They reckon there were between 12 to 15 people there including women.

“Apparently one of the women had been screaming for them to stop saying ‘they are only bairns’.

“They didn’t deserve that it is bad enough that they have suffered broken bones but it could have been so much worse.

“I don’t think the boys realised what’s happened to them.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Two of the men were wearing kilts, white shirts and black waistcoats. One of the men had blond hair and the other had black hair.

“Officers are also keen to trace a woman who may have witnessed the assaults.”

The woman is described as being in her late teens to early twenties with dark hair tied back in a ponytail and at the time of the incident was wearing a white or light jacket. All members of the group are described as being in their late twenties to early thirties.
