The owner of a Broughty Ferry hair salon targeted by crooks in a weekend raid has revealed “things could have been a lot worse”.
Joanne Costello, from Barnhill salon JL Hair Design, spoke to The Courier after her salon was broken into late on Saturday night.
Ms Costello says thieves forced their way into her shop and made off with £1500 worth of designer hair straighteners.
The businesswoman said: “There was close to £1500 worth of items taken.
“I took a call this morning to say that the door had been kicked in and I went down to see for myself.
“It was pairs of hair straighteners that were taken.
“They just grabbed the ones which were close to hand.
“It could have been a lot worse because they could have trashed the shop … But they just took what was in the window.
“We’re insured, so it’s not so bad, but it’s still a hassle.
“I put something on Facebook to make people aware and it’s been shared over 50 times.
“It’s unusual that this has happened here because there’s not normally any bother in Barnhill.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The break-in is believed to have happened between 4pm on Saturday January 16 and 8.30am on Sunday January 17 and as a result, items worth over £1000 were stolen.
“Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or has any information regarding the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
