Dundee’s newest pub and club is preparing to open its doors with the promise that it will do things a little differently.
Operator Tahir Ramzan, who already runs Beau nightclub, wants the returning Yuppies venue to “bring the fun” back to the Seagate.
He said the fortunes of Dundee’s nightlife had faded in recent years, but hopes to help return excitement to the sector.
“We live in a city and it should have a thriving nightlife,” he said. “Unfortunately Dundee is going through a strange and difficult time when it comes to pubs and clubs.
“Over the past five or six years we have seen the city becoming increasingly quieter at night.
“All the big clubs have suffered and that heyday when a number of large nightclubs together attracted upwards of 5,000 people on a big night out now seems a very long time ago.
“I think it’s a trend in every city, so we have to work extra hard to make sure that the nightlife is exciting and that people want to come out of their homes.
“The Seagate has always been the place for bigger groups to gather and Yuppies will complement this and help bring the fun back to the area.
“Some things won’t change Yuppies will always be about the big hits but we will be specialising in booth seating for big parties.
“We will be offering Dundee’s first private booth with its own dance floor that can host up to 30 people.”
Mr Ramzan said the venue would run “a very tight” door policy.
Yuppies opens for business this weekend and runs Tuesday to Sunday until 2.30am.
