Tuesday’s better weather brought out voters in Monifieth who think we’re better together.
Many shoppers stopped on their way in to the town’s Tesco to visit The Courier referendum roadshow bus, which was bathed in warm sunshine.
In our ping-pong ball poll 63.6% were for Scotland staying in the UK and 36.4% wanted independence.
Yes supporter Peter Caithness, 57, of Monifieth said: “For me it is a case of the closer you are to your government, the better representation you get.”
Retired GP Dr Flora Isles, 77, of Newbigging said: “Why should we not run our own affairs? We are a grown-up country.”
Dorothy Mitchell, 83, of Monifieth disagreed. “This is the British Isles and I think we should stick together,” she stated.
Local man Stewart Coombes (68) said: “I’m against independence because I think Alex Salmond is a dictator. Anyone who argues against him is shouted down.”
Beach Crescent in Broughty Ferry was our next stop, by which time a cold haar was setting in.
Ava Currie (63) from Monifieth, said: “We were independent once and I don’t see why we can’t be again.”
Carla Giannico (24), who works in the local Boots store, said: “I’m a Yes supporter because I think Scotland will be better off independent.”
Jean Rowan (76), who moved to Broughty Ferry from Nottingham seven years ago, said: “We’re better together. Alex Salmond doesn’t have a magic wand and there are problems that won’t go away if Scotland is independent.”
The poll in Broughty Ferry was 51.4% for and 48.6% against independence.
We are in Angus on Wednesday, with events in Montrose from 10am and Arbroath from 2pm.
